FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often does the Mountain Fresh Filter need to be changed?
This will depend on a number of factors, including how many people will be using the filter and whether it is supplying filtered water to other equipment such as a coffee machine or ice maker. In a typical office environment, the first stage filter needs to be changed yearly. Replacement of the .2 micron second stage filter varies per application. Current field use of the third stage carbon filter has it lasting an average of 10 years. It is important to note that in certain high use areas (such as 24/7 call centers or fitness centers) the filters may require changing on a quarterly basis.
Why do other filters on the market need to be changed more frequently?
There are generally three reasons for the extended life of the Mountain Fresh filter over other filters on the market.
1. The .2 sediment filter. By putting a .2 sediment filter in front of the carbon bed, we are ensuring that absolutely no particulate matter enters the carbon bed, thus extending its life. Carbon is very porous by nature and as a result, if particulate matter is allowed to enter the carbon bed, it would plug off very quickly.
2. We use only laboratory grade components. Mountain Fresh combines a .4 micron filter with a .2 micron sediment filter. If you check other filters on the market, you will see that some systems use filters as big as 5 microns or 1 micron, thus meaning lower quality and more frequent changes.
3. Carbon comes in many different grades and Mountain Fresh uses only premium grade organic carbon infused with silver in their water filters. The filters average approximately 6,000 gallons of water before the cartridge is spent.
What about bacteria build-up in the filter?
Chlorine, which is still in your water during the first two stages of the filter, will remove all bacteria present in the water.
During the third stage of the filter however, when the chlorine is removed, silver has been bonded to the granular activated carbon which inhibits any bacteria growth. This ensures that you can leave your filter unattended for weeks or months at a time without the fear of bacteria growth in your water filter.
Can we take this filter to our new office when we move?
Yes! For a small fee, Mountain Fresh will remove your filter and reinstall it into your new office. We simply put a chrome plug into the hole where the tap used to be and you can now enjoy Mountain Fresh water in your new space.
Can the filter be hooked to the coffee machine?
Yes! If we can access the water line running to the coffee machine, we can install a tee in the line and you will have filtered water for your coffees and teas.
What kind of companies are using your filters?
The Mountain Fresh filter can be found in a diverse group of companies, ranging from oil and gas, health care, finance and banking, airline, non-profit, government and everything in between.
What happens if there is a problem with my filter?
In the event that there is an issue, Mountain Fresh will be onsite within 24 hours to address the concern.

COMMERCIAL MAINTENANCE
The Mountain Fresh Canada filter contains laboratory grade sediment filters and premium grade, organic coconut based granular activated carbon (infused with silver). Because of these high quality components, this filter is the best on the market for sediment and chemical removal. Simple maintenance will ensure that your Mountain Fresh unit remains functioning properly for years to come.
The first stage .4 micron filter is replaced when 1200 gallons has filtered through, an average of once a year in most commercial applications. The .4 micron filter will trap all dirt, rust and sediment.
The second stage .2 micron filter acts as a safety net should the .4 micron fail from overuse. These first two filters help keep sediment and particulate matter out of the third stage carbon filter thus maintaining its efficiency. This doubling of filters also ensures that cysts such as Beaver Fever and Cryptosporidium are removed. This filter can typically have over 6000 gallons pushed through before it is necessary to look at replacing it. This is contingent on the .4 micron filter being changed regularly.
The granular activated carbon filter should be changed when a colorimetric test (such as Orthotolidine or OTO) shows presence of chlorine. Our testing on municipally treated Calgary water showed approximately 6,300 gallons of water could be used before chlorine could be detected. For office use, this would be 10 years at 2 gal/day.
Please note that the maintenance schedules are only guidelines as not all applications are the same. Please contact Mountain Fresh for commercial replacement costs and schedules.
